Standards and Tolerances Guide – Building and Construction Industry
The Victorian Building Commission, in collaboration with the NSW Office of Fair Trading, the ACT Government and Tasmanian Government have produced a guide for builders and trades working in the building and construction industry. The Guide to Standards and Tolerances 2007 is a must have document if you work in the building industry, and is relevant on a national level.
A pdf downloadable copy is available at The Building Commission site.
The Guide to Standards and Tolerances 2007 is not a legal document. It is not intended to replace the Building Code of Australia or Australian Standards. As stated; it is a guide. Given that it is available to the public everyone should all be aware of the guidelines contained within it.
The guide provides a technical outline of the tolerances that a builder or professional trade may consider in working out whether an element of building has been constructed to an acceptable standard. The Guide should be regarded as a resource rather than a series of legal definitions.
The Guide to Standards and Tolerances 2007 helps both builders and home owners if building work is in dispute. It provides explanations such as shrinkage around timber window frames, door frames, nail popping in timber floors, paving through to footings and foundations. And there are many different explanations and terms provided for people in the Building and Construction Industry.
This Guide has been in effect since 1 January 2007 and replaces the previous version that was issued in NSW on 1 July 2003.
